The Brief

My client wanted a timeless engagement ring that felt elegant without being overly traditional. The design centred on a beautifully proportioned oval diamond, framed by pear shaped side stones and set on a refined platinum band made for everyday wear

The Design Challenge

The main challenge was balancing a delicate look with long term durability. The claws needed to stay fine enough to let the diamonds show off their brilliance while still holding them securely

The pear shaped side stones had to sit in perfect alignment with the oval, so the three stones read as one shape rather than three separate settings

Developing the Design

The ring began as hand sketches before moving into CAD, where the oval and pear shaped diamonds were modelled to their exact measurements. This let me refine the claws, the angle of the side stones and the diamond set shoulders before anything was made

Once cast in platinum, every surface was hand finished in the workshop. The diamonds were set, the ring was hallmarked and then polished to a high shine, ready for the proposal

This was one of those commissions where restraint made the biggest impact. Every decision focused on keeping the oval diamond at the centre of attention, with the side stones framing it rather than competing, so the ring will still look timeless decades from now

“I wanted a thin band but he knew this would likely not suit my lifestyle, so he instead designed the band thicker on the underneath and thinner on top to achieve the aesthetic I was after whilst maintaining the ring’s strength”

How long would a ring like this take to make?

Most bespoke engagement rings take between 4 and 8 weeks from the design being approved. If you’re working towards a proposal or another important date, let me know as early as possible and I’ll always do my best to work within your timescale where practical

Not at all. Many clients begin with only a rough idea, a few inspiration images or simply a style they like. During the consultation, we’ll explore different options together and develop a design that reflects your preferences, budget and the person who’ll be wearing the ring
