Meet Tom

I’m Tom McDanielson, the goldsmith behind The Middle Green

For over 20 years, I’ve been designing and making jewellery by hand, creating everything from bespoke engagement rings and wedding bands to remodelled family heirlooms and one-off commissions

When you work with me, you’ll deal directly with the person making your jewellery from the very first conversation through to the finished piece. There are no sales staff, no production line and no passing your project between departments

My workshop is based in Wiltshire, where I combine traditional goldsmithing techniques with modern technology to create jewellery that’s made to be worn, lived in and passed on. Whether I’m crafting a simple wedding band or designing a completely unique engagement ring, my focus is always the same: thoughtful design, honest craftsmanship and jewellery that carries genuine meaning for the person wearing it

Many clients arrive with only a rough idea, a family heirloom or simply a story they want to preserve. Helping turn those ideas into something lasting is one of the most rewarding parts of my work

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does bespoke jewellery cost?

Every piece is individually designed, so the cost depends on the materials, gemstones and complexity of the design. Smaller bespoke commissions typically begin from around £500, while bespoke engagement rings generally start from £1,500. You’ll receive a fixed quotation before any work begins

How long does a bespoke commission take?

Most commissions take between 4 and 8 weeks once the design has been agreed. Simpler projects can sometimes be completed sooner, while more complex pieces or special gemstone sourcing may take longer. If you’re working towards a proposal, wedding or special occasion, let me know and I’ll always do my best to accommodate your timescale

Can you remodel inherited jewellery?

Yes. Remodelling is one of my favourite types of commission. I can often reuse family gold, platinum and gemstones to create something new while preserving the story behind the original piece. Every inherited item is inspected first to determine what can safely be reused

Can you use my own diamonds or gemstones?

In many cases, yes. Existing stones are carefully assessed before they’re incorporated into a new design to ensure they’re suitable for long-term wear. If a stone isn’t appropriate, I’ll explain why and recommend the best alternative

Do I need to know exactly what I want?

Not at all. Many clients come with only a rough idea, a few inspiration photos or simply a story they want the jewellery to represent. We’ll develop the design together until it feels right

Do you work with natural and laboratory-grown diamonds?

Yes. I can source both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds, as well as a wide range of coloured gemstones. I’ll explain the differences and help you choose the option that best suits your priorities and budget

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are recommended for all bespoke consultations so we have plenty of time to discuss your ideas without interruption. Consultations can take place in person, by phone or via video call

What happens after the consultation?

Following our conversation, I’ll develop your ideas into a proposed design and provide a fixed quotation. There is no obligation to proceed. Once you’re happy to move forward, work begins on creating your jewellery

Is all of your jewellery handmade?

Yes. Every bespoke commission is designed and made by me in my Wiltshire workshop using a combination of traditional goldsmithing techniques and modern technology where it improves the final result

Do you only work with clients in Wiltshire?

No. While I’m based in Wiltshire, I regularly work with clients throughout the UK. Initial consultations can be carried out remotely, and completed jewellery can be securely delivered if you’re unable to collect it in person

The Process

First Consultation

Every bespoke commission begins with a conversation.

We’ll discuss what you’re looking to create, your timeline and your budget. This can take place by phone, video call or email.

From there, we define the direction clearly, covering design, materials, scale and practicality. If you have reference images, you’re welcome to share them, but they’re not essential.

After this initial discussion, you’ll receive proposed design concepts and a clear quotation before moving forward.

Second Consultation

You’ll be invited to review your initial design concepts and refined quotation.

This session allows us to confirm proportions, materials and any final adjustments before production begins.

If you decide to proceed, a 50% deposit secures your booking block. The remaining balance is due on completion.

Once approved, your piece moves into production within the agreed timeframe.

Production

Once your design is approved and your deposit secured, the piece moves into production.

Most bespoke commissions take approximately 4–6 weeks, depending on complexity.

Each piece is crafted in our Wiltshire studio using traditional bench skills alongside contemporary technology. When complete, it is hallmarked and prepared for presentation.

All bespoke jewellery is made using recycled precious metals and ethically sourced gemstones from trusted suppliers.

Using Your Own Gemstones

On projects where you’d like us to use your diamonds and gemstones, we understand how incredibly valuable these are to you and that having them redesigned can sometimes be a quite sensitive and daunting project.
